Line Vautrin also created besides elaborate jewelry mirrors, boxes and other decorative objects, besides working with the materials such as gilt bronze and ceramics, she developed a new material called Talosel; objects of this kind fetch up to €147.000 at international auctions

This extraordinary necklace was created by the French designer Line Vautrin around the year 1950. The designs of the artist are inspired by poetry, mythology and wit combined with ornaments and symbols of the Early Middle Ages and antique cultures. While working with different materials, she further developed a new material made of synthetic resin, called ‘Talosel’, which was combined with the incrustation of colored mirror plates.


The necklace is in good condition with minor signs of wear. One small part of mirror incrustation missing. It length measures 38 cm.


Line Vautrin (1913-1997)

Line Vautrin was born in Paris in 1913. At the age of 15 she started to learn the goldsmith's art with her father and was already designing her own collections at the age of 21. She successfully participated at an exhibition in 1937. Being 28, she became self-employed and opened her first store on the Champs-Elysées. She developed a new material called ‘Taloses’ made of synthetic resin. Its name is an acronym from the syllablesl’aceTAte de celluLOSe ELaboré. In addition, she taught at a school until 1980 and won the National Arts and Crafts Prize in 1992. (cru)
