Description
England, 1995
Adrian Swinstead (born 1950) - English designer
Interesting contrast between smooth maple wood top and untreated laburnum stems
Height: 83 cm, 98 x 98 cm
Very good condition
Provenance: Collection Michael Huey and Christian Witt-Dörring
This table was designed and created around 1995 by the English designer Adrian Swinstead. For his creations, Swinstead likes to use wood that is either untreated or that has only been treated to a lesser extent, contrasting these materials with smoothly treated table tops of wood and glass. As a consequence, a combination of opposites is created: of the old and the new or the natural and the artificial. The contrast especially highlights the beauty of untreated waxed textures and surfaces.
The table is 83 cm in height and measures 98 x 98 cm. It is in a very good condition with minor traces of usage.
Adrian Swinstead (born 1950)
The English designer Adrian Swinstead was born in London in 1950 and grew up in South Africa. Swinstead began to play the Tabla, an Indian drum, and later decided to study music in India. Around this time, he began to work extensively with wood. In the late 1980s Swinstead moved from London to Buckinghamshire. Since then, he has been fascinated with trees and his works can be regarded as an homage to the tree and its natural beauty. Today Adrian Swinstead lives and works in the middle of the Woods in Bedfordshire, Great Britain.
