English, c. 1900. "Conquered But Not Subdued", hand colored etching after the painting by R. Caton Woodville Jr. (English, 1856-1927) dated 1899, etched by Jules Beaumont, published in London in 1900 by Henry Graves & Co. Etching depicts German or Prussian soldiers during the Franco-Prussian War leading a captured French soldier away from battle on a snowy path flanked by high rocks. Framed 41" x 33", unframed sight size 26.25" x 18.25".
