Description
Antoine Louis Barye (French, 1795-1875), "Proud Rooster", patinated bronze sculpture, inscribed with name on rock form base "A. BARYE". Animal sculpture depicting a male rooster with beak open and chest lifted up in a proud gesture. Figure's feet on a oblong rock form base above a stepped elongated octagonal base further supported on a red marble plinth base of similar form. Overall height (including base) approximately 9.5". Approximate height of bronze 8.125". Provenance: Trosby Galleries, Palm Beach, Florida whereby acquired by present owner in 1969. Sculpture accompanied with copy of letter from Trosby Galleries Inc. indicating item was purchased from their company in 1969 upon request.
Condition
Good patina. No damage. Bolt securing sculpture to marble needs to be tightened.
