Christian Dell (1893-1974)

Christian Dell (1893-1974) was a German silversmith who was born in Offenbach am Main in Hessen, Germany. Between 1907 and 11 he completed his silver forging studies at the Academy of Hanau, Germany. From 1912-13 Dell studied at the Saxon College of Arts and Crafts in Weimar, Germany. Subsequently between the years of 1922-25 he worked as the Master craftsman of the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar. In 1926 he transferred to the Frankfurt School of Art (Städelschule) to lead the metal workshop.

Gebrüder Kaiser & Co.

The Gebrüder Kaiser & Co. Leuchten KG, otherwise known as Kaiser Leuchten, was a distinguished lamp manufacturer in Neheim. Founded in 1895, the company focused first on the production of lamp components. In developing a cost-effective kerosene lamp made of tinplate the company achieved a breakthrough. After World War I, the production focused more on electronic lamps and Kaiser Leuchten became one of the biggest lamp manufacturers in Neheim. Employing the Bauhaus designer Christian Dell also played a great role in the company's development. The “idell” lamp, designed by Dell, is viewed to this day as a design classic and was produced in large numbers by Kaiser Leuchten from the 1930s through to the 1980s. (tfa)
