Good condition
The German painter Rainer Lafeld portrays the magician Mr. Cox in this work. Mr. Cox was the leading actor and magician in the magic grotesque ‘Death in a Tophat’, a theatre play, which served as a source of inspiration to Lafeld. ‘The extraordinary and at times very grotesque magic fascinates me, and enabled me to describe it in photos and image motifs’, Lafeld in an interview in the catalogue Magic in Art (Lüneburg, 1995).
The painting is signed and dated lower left ‘Lafeld 93’. It is in good condition. The canvas is slightly soiled. The dimensions of the stretcher frame are 150 x 100 cm.
Rainer Lafeld (born 1946)
The German painter and photographer Rainer Lafeld was born in 1946 in Rensburg and lives today in Hamburg. Until 1989 he was the founder and owner of an advertising agency for fashion. Since the early 1990s he works as an artist. (tm)
