The atmospheric landscape painting “Wadden Sea by Sylt” was painted by Karl Holstein around 1970. With a reduced colour palette Holstein manages to give an adequate impression of the vast Wadden Sea and the calming feeling this exceptional nature transmits.

The painting is in good condition. It is signed lower right with “K. Holstein”. Its dimensions, framed are 51 x 60 cm and the dimensions of the wood panel are 46 x 55 cm.

Karl Holstein (1912-2003)
Kar Hosltein was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1912 as the son of a blacksmith. Because his father forbade him to become an artist, he learned the job of a house painter. He saved up enough money to afford drawing classes after he finished his apprenticeship as a painter. In the war Karl Holstein lost an eye, but with that not his will to pursue his passion of becoming an artist. In the 1970s he had his own studio and soon started exhibiting his work, for example in Barcelona, Hamburg, Tours (France), Cologne and Sylt.
