The artist is one of the most important Spanish painters of the present age. Here one of his graphic arts with densely hatched, fine turquoise lines with an unsteady edge is visible. The lines are framed by a fine black line.

Joan Hernández Pijuan (1931-2005)

Joan Hernández Pijuan attended the Art School Llotja in Barcelona. Subsequently, he studied at the Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi in Barcelona. Since 1976, he had a professorship at the same university. In 1989, he was called into the chair of the faculty of fine arts of the university Barcelona. From 1992 until his death he was the dean of the faculty. In 2005, he was an honorary participant of the 51. Biennale in Venice. The artist received a number of Spanish awards; among those were the Spanish National Prize for Graphic Arts and the appointment as honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. (tm)
