Description
5 C-prints
USA, 1990
Hunter Reynolds (b. 1959) – US-American performance artist and photographer
Image size: each 48.3 x 34.3 cm
Very good condition
Hunter Reynolds focuses on the feelings and losses of people affected by HIV and AIDS; his works are internationally renowned since more than 20 years

Hunter Reynolds is especially well-known for his fictional character ‘Patina du Prey’, which he invented in the early 1990s and interprets as his alter ego. Since then he has been performing as Patina, dressed in voluminous robes and prepared with exquisite Japanese make-up, including a teardrop drawn under her right eye. With Patina du Prey and her memorial dresses, Hunter Reynolds has created a symbolic figure, which will hopefully prevent us from self-resignation, when considering HIV and AIDS. The present set of five C-prints belongs to the series ‘Patina du Prey Drag Pose’, created in 1990 in the course of Reynold’s impressive cage performance at Simon Watson Gallery in New York.

The C-prints are in very good condition. Each work is irreversibly matted and framed with white wooden frames. The image size is 48.3 x 34.3 cm, respectively. The overall framed dimensions of each work are 67 x 57 cm.

Hunter Reynolds (b. 1959)

Hunter Reynolds studied at the Otis-Parsons Art Institute in Los Angeles and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1984. Engaged as a visual artist and AIDS activist, he became a co-founder of Art Positive in 1989 and fought against homophobia and censorship in the arts. For over twenty years, he has been dealing with political, social and gender themes which he constantly reflects as a HIV-positive man living in the age of AIDS. His photographs, installations and performances are well-established in the art world and have repeatedly been presented in solo exhibitions, e.g. at White Columns in New York. (cbo)
