Shiva (Varzgar) (1941-2011)

Shiva was born in Tabriz/Iran as the only son of an educated family. In 1960, he moved to Austria to study architecture at the Technical University in. After graduating in 1974, he devoted himself exclusively to painting. Shiva developed a distinctive style, which is characterized by stylized, idealized, and symbol-prone landscapes. Based on archetypes, a few symbols evolved, which he recurrently used in his works and on which he imposed his own philosophy and a defined meaning.

His paintings are reflections of the glory and glamour of the universe in a wide spectrum, characterized by his deep and loving appreciation of nature. The artist found inspiration in the mysteries and beauty of nature. He depicted his impressions in a wide range of art works. Out of a desire to improve material artistically, he gave watches, jewelry, porcelain and cars a new look. He broke up the two-dimensionality of painting and transferred it to these objects. Thus he created color accented furniture, comprehensive interior designs like glass windows, wall mosaics, facades of private and public buildings and bathroom orspa areas, as well as a 800m2 wall spray painting in Vienna.

One of his major works is a 72-piece set of porcelain tableware painted and fired by himself that might be considered his main oeuvre. For almost two years he worked on it in great detail with the finest of brushes, depictingwater, his main motif, in its various manifestations. His opus magnum was shown in numerous publications and TV broadcasts.
