Typical abstract, gestural composition by the Moroccan artist Ahmed Afailal, characterized by a pastose paint application combined with scratching technique

This abstract work was created by Moroccan artist Ahmed Afailal in 1992 and shows a typical composition which follows the style of the Art Informal. He applied the paint in a spontaneous gesture to the image carrier combining it with a scratching technique.



The work is signed and dated within the representation lower right ‘Ahmed Afailal/92’. It is overall in very good condition with only slight signs of wear such as lightweight traces due to framing. Image dimensions: 81 x 61 cm. Framed dimensions: 90 x 70 cm. The frame shows traces of use.



Ahmad Afailal (born 1949)

Afailal Ahmad was born in 1940 in Tetouan in Morocco and studied visual arts at the local Academy of Fine Arts. He continued his studies at the Academy of Applied Arts in Seville and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. In 1979, he became a Professor for Visual Arts in Tangier. Afailal’s works manifests the artist’s great passion for the art of engraving, frescoes and medals. (cru)
