This work was created by Marco Gastini in 1989. During this time, the artist experimented with new materials whilst at the same time reintroducing color to his works, which had been mainly monochrome compositions. In his works Gastini combines poetic-painterly elements with a conceptual approach. Here he added various color planes, applied with a dynamic gesture, and completed with collaged pieces of paper and a piece of wood, endowing the work with an interesting haptic character.



The work is signed and dated on the verso ‘MGastini 89’. It is in good condition. The two adjacent sheets are mounted on cardboard at three points. The frame shows light wear. The framed work measures 70 x 101.5 cm, the dimensions of the collage are approx. 35.5 x 69 cm.



Marco Gastini (b. 1938)

Marco Gastini initially trained with his father, a marble cutter. He studied at the Liceo Artistico and at the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin. At first he created figurative works, followed by reduced, almost monochrome paintings in the context of the Nuova Pittura movement. Around 1970 Gastini created his first sculptural works with lumps of lead. He stared working with charcoal, colored chalk and cement, and from the 1980s also used wood, stone slabs, iron, animal hides or plastic sheets. Eventually, the works became more colorful and painterly. Marco Gastini now lives and works in his hometown of Turin. (tfa)
