The present oil painting is a typical example of the artistic output of the German painter Ernst Stache and shows a stage-like composition with a view of the Piazzetta di San Marco in Venice. A small part of the Palazzo Ducale is visible on the right hand side, leading the view towards the center, where the famous Biblioteca Marciana shapes the space. In the distance on the far left the picture additionally reveals the central building of Santa Maria della Salute, another attraction of the town. Stache rendered the scene a number of finely painted figures describing typical daily life.
The painting is in good condition considering its age. There are light marks, where the frame has rubbed. Inspection under UV light reveals tiny areas of retouching to the sky and the lower parts of the depiction. The size of the stretcher is 25.5 x 39.5 cm and the framed overall dimensions are 38 x 52 cm.
