Two luxurious signets with charming brilliant gems
These two 14 karat gold signets were manufactured circa 1870 in Germany. They are of rectangular shape and fitted with a citrine and an amethyst respectively. The gold setting with ornamental engravings is decorated with a volute-shaped arch and a little ball. The top bears a chiseled cylindrical eye. The signets were originally intended to press a seal into a sealing mass. Also, they were often attached to chains of pocket watches and served as a status symbol.
The signets are in very good condition, showing minor wear. The connecting ring has three illegible hallmarks. The dimensions are approximately 35 x 30 mm, and the total weight is circa 28 grams. (cko)
