Salvador Dalí is one of the most demanded artists of the 20th century; the auction record for a sculpture by the artist is currently set at more than €45,000
For this sculpture, which was published in an edition of 1400 copies, the Spanish artist Salvador Dalí has recreated the famous ancient Greek sculpture of the Winged Victory of Samothrace in small format and displayed as a double figure. The model origined probably 190 BC as a victory monument and can be admired today in the Louvre in Paris.
The bronze on a black marble column is signed in the cast of the bronze plinth ‘Dalí’ and provided with the punched numbering ‘1319’. On a liver badge on the marble column are the engraved signature and date ‘Dalí 1973’ as well as the Italian identification and assay marks located. Additionally the bronze plinth bears the foundry mark ‘Venturi Arte’. The sculpture is overall in very good condition with a faintly visible chip at the upper edge of the marble column. The total height is 37.8 cm.

The Spanish painter, printmaker and sculptor Salvador Dalí was one of the main representatives of Surrealism. Already during his school days he took private painting and drawing classes and studied from 1922 at the Academia San Fernando in Madrid, but was expelled for disorderly conduct in 1926. In 1929, Dalí joined the Surrealists in Paris and met Gala, his muse and future wife. Today his dreamy works, influenced by the unconscious, are displayed in collections of important international works, influenced from the unconscious, are displayed in collections of important international museums.
