This serigraph on acrylic sheet is provided with the incised signature ‘Man Ray’ and the incised numbering ‘25/35’. Additionally it is monogramed and dated upper left in the print ‘MR 1919’. The overall condition is good with only occasional tiny bumps and minor scratches. The image measures 44.3 x 54.3 cm, the acrylic sheet 50.3 x 60 cm.

Man Ray (1890-1976)

The American artist Man Ray studied briefly at the liberal arts school Modern School of New Yorks Ferrer Center, which accommodates his free and spontaneous way of working better than the traditional State schools. Later, he lived for a time in an artists' colony in New Jersey. Impressed by the European Avant-garde Man Ray quickly developed his own futuristic-cubist style. Presumably at his first solo exhibition in a New York gallery in 1915 Man Ray met Marcel Duchamp, whose ideas and theories had a strong influence on him. In the early 1920s, the artist developed the photo technique without camera called Rayogram. Man Ray is one of the most important artists of the Dada movement and the Surrealism and an important stimulus for modern photography. (fea)
