Description
Netsuke, glazed ceramic. Japan, 19th cent.
Very compact figural netsuke by the rare ceramic artist Wahei depicting a fine amusing grinning luck deity – in the style of the patriarch Daruma – presumably Fukurokuju. The very high head, his characteristic feature, is discretely executed. The glaze is brown and white with some green, rosette himotoshi, sealed WA-HEI on the flat bottom. Illustrated under the same name in the large book of signatures by Lazarnick.
HEIGHT 3,7 CM
From a German private collection.
