Description
Stone, China, Late Neolithic Culture
Rectangular blade with straight sides widening slightly toward the cutting edge which is well finished with a wide bevel on both sides. The outer edges are square-cut and flat. Smoothly polished surface with some areas of weathering. Three holes were drilled from both sides. One side of the blade shows a shallow groove, typical for the archaic method of cutting stone.
Height 19,8 cm, Width 10,65 and 12,03 cm, Thickness 6,5 cm
From an old Swiss collection
All jades in this catalogue were examined by Univ. Prof. Filippo Salviati. They were declared by him to be authentic and, according to their time of origin, were critically and carefully evaluated. Salviati teaches Chinese art in the faculty of Orientalism, Universitiy 'La Sapienza' in Rome, and is one of the renowned jade experts.
