Description
Paint on paper. Korea, Choson, ca. 17th/18th century.
A very effective composition of a tiger directly in the foreground at the edge of a cliff, bushy tail, yellow eyes, its mouth open and snarling, wild, expressive head, only a few branches with black and blue-green painted needles stretch out from the pine tree in the left hand corner of the picture. The needles are fine and dynamic, painted with a sure hand and with agile expressiveness. This picture is very likely a single scene from a scroll painting since a signature (or inscription) is missing. Restored and damaged areas which however do not detract from the effect of the tiger or the total spatial sphere. Mounted and framed.
FRAME 142 x 63 CM, PAINTING 113 x 42.5 CM
