Description
Netsuke, ivory. Japan, 1st half of 19th cent.
A small composition with several items, primarily a bag and a long straw container. On top of the bag there is a very finely carved depiction of multiple mitsutomo-e, the “triplicate-whorl-symbolâ€; they hold cosmic significance and also symbols of luck. On the underside of the bag is a precisely written signature RYO-UN. The small chord hole goes through a circular platform beneath. Very well-rounded and good age-patina.
WIDTH 3,5 CM
From a German private collection
