Description
Torah Ark curtain / decorative textile for a synagogue. [Ottoman Empire], dedication from 1897.
Green velvet, golden threads embroidery.
Velvet with golden embroidery which was used as a Torah Ark curtain or as a synagogue decoration. The velvet is embroidered with a golden thread in two shades. A central floral pattern with a vase, surrounded by an embroidered frame, with elements from the central design appearing in the corners. In the upper middle part appears an embroidered dedication which is not clear. It is possible that this textile was made for a different purpose and was "upgraded" to a Torah Ark curtain or a decoration for a synagogue with the added dedication.
