Description
Extremely rare 18th century wood block print on home spun linen cloth attached to large burlap-like weaving from human hair - "History of England in Verse from the Conquest to the Present" is printed on the very top of the linen which (last date of 1760) shows each monarch's image with a poem / verse. Examples - Edward the 5th , poor child, how short his reign, Proclaimed but never could the crown obtain. His uncle , wicked wretch, by fraud not strife, first robbed him of his crown and next his life."; King James the first in Scotland born and bred, In Queen Eliza's steps refused to tread, His peaceful learn'd was, historians say, Funny and fond of arbitrary sway." This amazing piece of early history is very rare - the printed cloth measures 13 3/4" x 16", the hair weaving backdrop measures approximately 17" x 19", in contemporary frame with framer's stamped date of Sep 23 1964 and description on back side, condition - we did not examine out of frame - Linen with one inch corner top left and right sides missing, four holes, very little areas of foxing, some thining of cloth, condition - good.
