Description
REDWARE FACE JUG - Mid-19th c. Redware Folk Art Face Jug with Albany Slip Glaze, possibly by Stine Pottery, White Cottage, Ohio; dated October 5, 1844. Date is inscribed on the base (Oct 5 1844) and under glaze on the back of the jug (Oct 5 '44); with sturdy handle; spout with folded top; finely molded and carved facial features, including a full set of teeth, beard, and large ears; and kaolin eyes and teeth. 6 1/2" high, 6 1/4" wide. Glaze flakes on top lip and on the side of left ear.
