RARE KOREAN PACK'TONG MIRROR - Koryo Dynasty, 12th to 13th century, circular mirror with frog form knop, drilled for a cord, surrounded by five concentric rings of shallow relief, the centermost depiciting guardians of the cardinal points (dragon, serpent, tortoise and bird), the next ring containing trigrams and celestial stems, the next having twelve symbols of the Chinese zodiac, then thirty-six animals, then the twenty-four annnual climates. 6 7/8" diam., fine condition, warm patina. A mirror identical to this is illustrated in the "Chosen koseki zufu", 1915-1935, vol 9, pl 3941, from the collection of the Seoul National Museum, another is in the Fitzwilliam Museum, University of Cambridge, UK.
