FINE 19TH C TELESCOPE - Alvan Clark & Sons, Cambridge Mass, All Brass Refracting Telescope, marked on tail piece, having 3" objective, 2 1/2" draw tube with smooth wheel adjustment, 39" tube, original reticule, tripod mount screws but no tripod. Circa 1870-80. With the original lens cap. 42 1/4" long overall. Excellent condition with clear optics. Alvan Clark (1804-1887) and his son Alvan Graham Clark (1832-1897) were known by astronomers for building the finest quality instruments, most of the large-scale scopes in observatories nationwide were made by Clark & Sons.
