Cameron Chesterfield Alleyne. Gold Coast At a Glance (NY 1931) 143 pp. In original Dust Jacket, which identifies this as the "Golden Anniversary Edition". Despite that statement, not repeated in the book, this may well be the First Edition as a 1936 revision was 35 pages shorter. This copy may also be the author's own; it was found with books inscribed to Alleyne (several of which are found elsewhere in this sale).
Alleyne was born in Barbados, British West Indies. After coming to America, graduating from Tuskegee, ministering toAMEcongregations in six states, and editing theAMEZion Church literary magazine, in 1924, he was elected Bishop of Church missions in West Africa, becoming the firstAMEBishop resident in the then-British colony of Gold Coast - present-day Ghana. This book is based on his four years of life and work in Africa.
