Description
A Greek Gnathian-ware skyphos, c. 4th Century BC, decorated with grapes and tendrils in yellow and white slip, below a band of cymation, a band red and white, a row of pellets, and another red band. On the reverse side are two bands of white pellets or small laurel leaves. There is a thick red band somewhat remaining near the foot, and much of the skyphos has a reddish-hue, as if some of the color had bled around the vessel. A collection note is written in pencil underneath the foot. H: 3 1/3 in (8.6cm), D: 3 in (7.7cm). Ex Southern England private collection.
