1250-650 BC. A Bronze Age sceptre finial comprising a tubular bulb with ribbed collar, narrow columnar shaft surmounted by a bifacial Master of Animals figurine formed as two sheep or canines on hindlegs flanking a stylised human mask with second mask above; supplied with a custom-made stand. 343 grams, 37cm including stand (14 1/2"). Property of a Surrey gentleman; acquired on the English art market prior to 1980. Cf. Godard, F. The Art of Iran, London, 1965, fig. 19.
