Description
8th century AD. A flat-section plaque with pelta-shaped arms pierced to accept a rivet; the face gilded, with central lozenge panel, border of punched pellets to outer and inner edges, chevrons to the arms, three-band interlace plait surrounding; central panel with pelletted rim, pyramidal hub (crushed); three rivets in place, roves to the reverse and one to the upper face. 14 grams, 63mm (2 1/2"). Property of a German collector; acquired in the 1990s.
