AFTER SIR MARTIN ARCHER SHEE (BRITISH, 1769-1850) PORTRAIT OF WILLIAM PENN ARCHER-SHEE. Oil on canvas. Unsigned. Bearing a 'Findlay Galleries Chicago, Kansas City' tag with artist information. Shee was a past president of the Royal Academy Canvas: 36'' x 30'' Frame: 42.5'' x 36.75''
Condition
This piece has had significant restoration. The canvas has been cut down and mounted to a piece of masonite. The surface has imapasto crushing from being heated in restoration. There is a light texture through out the surface from the previous crackle. There is a heavy varnish layer to the surface causing some light yellowing to the painted pigment. There are some light oil finger prints to the surface from handling. There are several pen tip - 1" slight scratches to the the surface with some minor pigment loss. There is a slight 3" bubble in the canvas on the top edge where the canvas is starting to pull off the masonite back. There is significant scuffing and white pigment grime build up to the edge of the canvas where it is rubbed by the gesso wood frame.
