Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Ca. 500 CE.  Large clay oval mask of a fantastic, open mouth fanged feline-creature with wide eyes and flat ears.  Pierced atop for attachment.  Size:  6-1/2"W x 4-1/2"H +  mount.  Wonderfully expressive. Cp. Pre-Columbian Art of South America by Alan Lapiner and Amerindian Signs, 5000 Years of Pre-Columbian Art in Ecuador by Valdez for similar examples of this type.
