Description
India, 19th-early 20th century AD. Bronze war elephant on wheels on the back of which is an openwork blanket on which sits a throne with the god Krishna sat between two lions; at the front of the elephant is a warrior brandishing a spear, now lost, and attacking a lion that moves up the trunk of the elephant; at the bottom the elephant holds another lion in its trunk. 12.7 kg, 50cm (19 3/4"). Acquired on the London art market in the late 1980s.
