Description
CARL RUNGIUS (1869-1959) American wildlife painter known for his depictions of Western big game animals within their natural environment. A rather curious S.P. 7"" x 9"" sepia showing a gentleman and inscribed by him to noted zoologist and conservationist Dr. William T. Hornaday. Signed ""Elbert Joseph"" [?] dated 1929. Matted to an 11"" x 14"" sheet and signed on sheet below image by Rungius: ""To Dr. William Hornaday my friend and best friend in America! Carl Rungius Feb. 19th 1937"". Along with an original 8"" x 10"" sepia photograph of Peter A. Juley's most famous image of Rungius showing him in a seated pose with paintbrushes in hand in original envelope. Very good condition.
