Description
ADOLF HITLER WORLD WAR I REGIMENTAL CIGARETTE CASE Brown leather cigarette case bearing the name of Hitler's World War I regiment the 16th Royal Bavarian Reserve embossed in silver also bearing: ""Munchen 25. August 1915"" a two-piece case 3 1/4"" x 4 3/4"" closed. The back of the case is abraded indicating is may have been glued to a backing at one time. The regiment was in the field on the date indicated. We speculate that a replacement soldier may have received this case while the regiment was reinforcing near Aubers. Hitler served in France and Belgium in the 16th Bavarian Reserve Regiment (called ""Regiment List"" after its first commander). He originally enlisted as a Schütze and was promoted once to the rank of Gefreiter (PFC or Lance Corporal).
