U-50 CAPTURED NAVIGATION INSTRUMENT Wood ""walking ruler"" captured from the World War I German U-boat U-50 24"" wide and British-made: ""Capot. Field's Improved Parallel"". The center lever is engraved: ""FROM U.50 SURRENDERED AT HARWICH 16-1-19"". One corner chipped else very good. The U-50 had a very distinguished history. She was commissioned into the Pola Flotilla of the German Imperial Navy on 12 July 1917 as SM UB-50. In her seven patrols the submarine sank 38 vessels. most notably the HMS BRITANNIA which she torpedoed two days before the armistice went into effect. The U-50 was broken-up for scrap following her surrender.
