Description
Antique bottle from Van Marken & Co. Gin of Delft, Holland. Called a "case" bottle, as such bottles were transported in wooden cases of 4 to 24 bottles. Dark Olive Green glass, square shape. Diagonal 2-Mold. V. Marken & Co in relief on the side. Marked on the bottom with a " 1 " symbol. Dutch gin, housed in cheaply-manufactured blown glass bottles, was one of the most sought-after goods during the period. The shape of the bottle was made to be easily picked up and transported. Dug from underground or underwater. Circa late 1700's/early 1800's. Measurements: Approx. 9.2" high, 3" x 3" square base
Condition
Some roughness on the neck rim from manufacture, not a defect from use. Nice patina, from centuries of age
