Patinated Bronze Bas-relief by French master sculptor Claude Michel (December 20, 1738 – March 29, 1814), known artistically as Clodion. Hybrid Figurals Bacchanalia - - a Mythological ritual scene of the burning of a goat by hybrid figures, resembling Faun or Centaurs, with the bodies of humans and hind legs of horses or goats. Signed lower right – Clodion. Dated on the back to 1783, and initialed "HC", inscribed - Hommage respectueux A Monseigneur Le Prince de Rohan. Most likely given as a gift, or made as a homage (tribute) to Louis René Édouard, Cardinal or Prince de Rohan (1734-1803), a hereditary French aristocrat, period politician and Bishop of Strasbourg. Museum piece. Measurements: Approx. 20" x 8.5" (21.5 cm x 50.5 cm). Weighs about 10 lbs. or over 4.5 kg
