JOHN W. GAINES IV (b.Chicago, February 18, 1957), American Texan. Oils on canvas. Live Portrait of Boxing Legend, prominent philanthropist, social activist and cultural icon - Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr., also known as Muhammad Ali. Hand signed by the artist, lower right and on the back with his address and phone numbers - Mr. John W. Gaines. Mr. Gaines is a prominent African American Artist from Houston, Texas, well prized and exhibited. His works are part of the collections of many noted celebrities, including George Foreman, Bishop T.D. Jakes, and - Muhammad Ali, with whom Gaines was well acquainted. It came from a very close acquaintance of Ali's from Louisiana, who now lives in Houston, Texas, where Ali spent much of his life. Dates back to the c.1960-70's, showing the YOUNG Ali in full boxing attire. Comes with full detailed provenance. Measurements: Approx. 40" x 30"
Condition
Due to water damage, there are some areas of missing or damaged paint. There are also four small holes, most likely from a previous framing, around the corners
