Description
Greek Hellenistic period, ca. 2nd to 1st century BCE. Â An absolutely beautiful piece of ancient glass with dark blue body, tall neck and everted rim, wound with opaque white trails tooled into a feather pattern around the body, double handled with a knob base. Threads of white, yellow, Bordeaux are drawn downward from the shoulder to the base with a few spiraling threads around the neck. This piece dates from the last great revival of core-forming in the first millennium which occurred in the second and first centuries BCE. Probably manufactured in the Syro-Palestinian region or the Levant generally. Â Size: 4-3/4" H. Ref. "Early Ancient Glass, The Toledo Museum of Art", David Frederick Grose, 1989, pp.107, 124, No. 170, 172. Â Â
