1936 Novelist "Thomas Wolfe" Typed Letter Signed
THOMAS WOLFE (1900 - 1938), American Novelist, Author of "Look Homeward, Angel" and other works.
May 4, 1936-Dated Typed Letter Signed "Thomas Wolfe", 1 page, measuring 7.25" x 10.5", on "Thomas Wolfe, 865 First Avenue, New York, N.Y." personal letterhead stationery, written to Mr. Robert F. Sisk, an RKO Studios producer. Toning on the verso; otherwise, fine condition.

Wolfe writes in full: "Dear Mr. Sisk: By all means send your books along any time that is convenient to you, I shall be delighted to autograph them for you. Please send them to Scribner & Sons, care of Mr. Maxwell Perkins, 597 Fifth Avenue, New York. I ask you to do this because they can attend to wrapping and mailing them much better than I can, and I go in there almost every day, so there should be little delay in getting them back. Let me take this opportunity of thanking you again for having 'The Informer' run off for me. I saw the picture sometime early in January I believe and invited about two dozen of my friends to the showing. Everyone was delighted, they thought it was one of the most magnificent and moving things they had ever seen and I felt the same way about it. It was very generous of you to allow us to see it under such comfortable and favorable circumstances. Am hard at work now on a new book, but hope to see some of you folks and a little more of the West again before too long a time has gone by. Meanwhile, with best wishes, I am Sincerely yours, Thomas Wolfe."

Wolfe thanks Sisk for sending a print of John Ford's The Informer (RKO, 1935) that he screened privately with some friends. The book he refers to being hard at work on is most likely, You Can't Go Home Again. The book was published posthumously in 1940. While on a two-week tour of the West, visiting 11 national parks, Wolfe became ill with pneumonia and died a few weeks later. He left a large body of manuscript materials totaling over one million words.
