NASA Red-Number Photograph with Typed Story by T. Stafford, Very Unusual
A NASA red-number photograph accompanied by a typed letter signed by Thomas P. Stafford. The photograph measures 8" x 10", dated ca. 1966. NASA "red number" photo No. S-66-38517, showing astronaut Gene Cernan during the Gemini IX extra-vehicular activities. The image was captured by Stafford from inside the spacecraft. On verso is a printed statement explaining that the photo was taken from Stafford's archive, Identification No. TPS121. Together with a typed letter signed "Thomas P. Stafford", addressed to Phillip Krajecki, which accompanied the photograph. In the letter, Stafford thanks Krajecki for his support for the Lieutenant General Thomas P. Stafford Museum and explains the circumstances under which the photograph was taken. The photograph has some creasing and bumping to the right edge, along with minor toning. The typed letter is very fine, with a bold signature.
Stafford's letter reads in part:

Most of Gene's EVA time was spent at the back of the spacecraft with the Astronaut Maneuvering Unit (AMU). Unfortunately, Gene's helmet visor fogged over and we had to end the EVA early. The AMU activities were canceled…"
