Reverse Painting on Glass Panel of the Boston “Tea Party”
c. 1840-80 Wall Mirror with Decorative Eglomise Reverse Painting on Glass Panel with Depiction of the Boston “Tea Party,” Choice Very Fine.
This early, antique period American Mirror is set below a colorful and vivid Reverse Painting on Glass panel, displaying a scene of the Boston Tea Party. It shows men dressed as Indians onboard the ship throwing crates of tea into the harbor and another group rowing out to the ship to help. The frame has a projecting cornice with turned acorn drops and measures 20” x 35.25”. The upper panel measures 11.75” x 7.75”, with the mirror portion measuring 11.75” x 19.75”. This wonderful two-section mirror came from the estate of Maryanne Klopman, Marblehead, Massachusetts.
