Description
South Carolina Currency
June 10, 1775 South Carolina £50 Note Rarity
South Carolina. June 10, 1775. Fifty Pounds. “Commons House of Assembly” Indent Engraved Certificate. Reverse: “FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD” text. Split and corner repairs, backed. Net graded PMG Choice Fine-15.
Fr. SC-102. This extremely rare June 10, 1775, Fifty Pounds “Commons House of Assembly” indent South Carolina note is highly elusive. It is a Revolutionary War issue that is missing in virtually every South Carolina and Colonial paper money collection. This is a highly important South Carolina series of Handwritten Denomination Certificates with the left side indent. The back has an ornate back with motto which reads, “FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD”. We have seen but a few of these rare notes, the majority in existence are of very low grade. The face presents very well, the back appears to have been archivally backed long ago. All six signatures are well written in brown ink and very clear to read.
