The box decorated with a faun in relief was created circa 1930 in the Majolika Keramik Manufaktur Karlsruhe which was founded in 1901 by Großherzog Friedrich I. The blue-green glazed box is glazed in crème color inside and shows a faun in relief on the lid with rust-brown accents as well as a border at the edge of the box.
The box bears the manufactory mark and the model number ‘4834’. It is in good condition with a minimal chip to the inner edge. The diameter is 10 cm.
Majolika Keramik Manufaktur Karlsruhe
The manufactory was founded in 1901 by Grand Duke Friedrich I. Hans Thoma and Wilhelm Süs were the founding artists. Karlsruhe Majolica Manufactory produced a series of unique porcelain pieces, which were immediately met with high demand. All pieces carried a memorable sign of quality – the 'Coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Baden with the Grand Duke's Crown and double M'. The manufactory was awarded a gold medal at the World Fair, St. Louis, 1904. (spl)
