Germany - Circa 1910’s Here we find a very sophisticated still bank. Even though these spelter creations are quite small, they can often convey a great volume of human emotion. At first glance, we see a pup lounging in his club chair and wearing his robe. One might reasonably assume that he’s calm and comfortable. But investigate further and you will discern that this sweet soulful creature has a slot on his mind, as if he’s contemplating the woeful trouble in the world. This is emphasized by the wringing of his fingers, by the arched eyebrows with sad eyes and the visible pain expressed by his tragic down-turned smile. This unique bank is a masterpiece of sensitivity. A similar bank is illustrated in the Pierce book, but this one is far more developed. Nearly 5” tall. Absolute perfection. Material: Spelter
