Condition consistent with age and use. Not examined out of frame. Canvas appears to have been relined. Stretcher marks are slightly visible. Craquelure is observed throughout, and noted as especially heavy throughout the bottom half. An area of grey residue is noted in the top right corner, and an area of similar residue is noted along the left side. An approximately 2 ½ inch white scratch is noted to the left of the figure’s vase – mark is visible on the verso as well, indicating an apparent repair. Canvas fluoresces slightly under UV light, possibly due to a later varnish. Two approximately 1 inch spots of inpainting are observed to the background, and scattered lines are noted along the top edge. Figure’s head is seen with apparent inpainting surrounding, especially along the right side. Frame is seen with small losses to gilt and gesso all over, and some slight separations along the top edge. All corners are observed with slight separations, and carving to the bottom corners appears to have been repaired. A striking portrait.
