Description
A choice Roman manganese-purple mold-blown glass amphoriskos, c. 1st Century AD, with short cylindrical neck with inward folded rim, the ovoid body with central wave device, vertical ribbing above and below. A marvelous example of the type! H: 3 in (7.6 cm). Intact with nice pale purple color and light iridescence. Cf. Constable-Maxwell no. 101 for a nearly identical example. Ex Donald Brown Collection, Boston, Massachusetts, formed in the 1960s.
