Coulter 20: "Covering the period 1861-1862, this account was written by an Englishman who because of his long residence in the South was 'southernized.' ... He joined the Confederate army in Alabama, was sent first to Corinth, Mississippi, and seems to have taken part in all the principal battles from Bull Run to Fredericksburg." Dorbusch III, 1356.
