Description
Artist: Balogh, Istvan. 1969. cca. 100 x 70 cm. Vintage poster. Paper, offset. Typical propaganda poster from the 1960's by Istvan Balogh. The impressive drawing shows the unity of brawny workers, who build up an anonymous mass. The red color and the pentacles are common socialist symbols, referring to the government of the People's Republic of Hungary. The Hungarian People's Republic was a socialist state that administered Hungary from 20 August 1949 to 23 October 1989. It was governed by the Socialist Workers' Party, which was under the influence of the Soviet Union. The state remained in existence until 1989 when opposition forces consolidated in forcing the regime to abandon communism. The state considered itself the heir of the Hungarian Soviet Republic, which was formed in 1919 and was the second socialist state formed after Soviet Russia. It was designated a people's democratic republic by the Soviet Union in the 1940s. (source: wikipedia.org)
