12mo, modern vellum binding, handwritten spine-title in brown ink, blue edges, pp. 480. Two title-pages, the first copper-plated with young boys coming near and near to Christ by praying and studying. Roman and Italic type, text in Latin.
Scarce enlarged edition of this highly popular work by the Bavarian Jesuit Johannes Niess. The «Alphabet of Christ» is a mnemonics applied to the learning of Divine Revelation. The book deals with human virtues and vices and is illustrated by the Antwerp born Raphael Sadeler the Younger (1560-1632) who worked in Bavaria until 1628. Printed for the first time in 1618 it was re-issued up to 1670 at least four times.
